2021 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse comes in seven trims: L, LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. Stretching a massive 204 inches, the Traverse is the largest vehicle in the midsize SUV class. The lower trims include 18-inch alloy wheels, and the sportier RS trim introduces blacked-out accents along with 20-inch wheels. The available Redline edition on the Premier trim adds black-and-red accents, while the top-of-the-line High Country trim gains chrome accents and a twin-panel sunroof.

Chevy now has one engine option for the Traverse after discontinuing the turbocharged four-cylinder engine in 2020. This V-6 engine produces 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the SUV's nine-speed automatic transmission, you can expect smooth shifts, quick acceleration, and easy stops whether you're traveling down the highway or in traffic. The engine also includes a start-stop function, which helps save on fuel. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on all trims except the base L.

The 2021 Traverse offers decent gas mileage, delivering 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway when outfitted with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive returns similar numbers: 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Also, when equipped with the trailering package, the Traverse can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds.

In its standard configuration, the 2021 Traverse seats eight people. Opting for the second-row captain's chairs lowers this number to seven. All three rows can seat adults comfortably, and you can easily get in and out of any of the seats thanks to the SmartSlide Second-Row Seat. With this feature, simply pull the handle and the seat raises and slides forward so you have a larger opening to the third row.

In 2020, Chevy replaced the MyLink infotainment interface with the Infotainment 3 interface, which is more user-friendly and well-organized. This system comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen display, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There are six USB ports scattered throughout the cabin, including several in the third row. Available upgrades include an 8-inch touch-screen display, navigation, satellite radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

As one of the best cargo haulers in its class, the Traverse has 23 cubic feet of space behind the third row of seats and 57.8 cubic feet once you fold down those seats. Folding down both rows of seats increases that number to 98.2.

Standard safety features on the 2021 Traverse include a rearview camera, rear-seat reminder, and a buckle-up reminder. It also adds the Teen Driver system, which allows you to set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. There are almost a dozen available safety upgrades, such as blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view parking camera system.
