2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer
An all-new model for the 2021 model year, the Chevrolet Trailblazer shares a name with the truck-based TrailBlazer SUV that made a cameo between 2002 and 2009. The newer subcompact SUV has an abundance of standard features combined with a roomy interior. This nimble five-seat vehicle, which slots between Chevy's Trax and Equinox, fits easily into tight parking spots and accelerates nicely at highway speeds. Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Trailblazer comes in five trim levels — L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS — all featuring the signature Chevrolet dual-port grille. The Activ trim has a more rugged appearance with a more open grille, while the RS trim has a sportier grille and blacked-out bow-tie badge. The Trailblazer L comes standard with 16-inch wheels, but the LS, LT, and Activ trims add 17-inch wheels. In contrast, the top-of-the-line RS trim runs on 18-inch wheels.
A two-tone roof, exclusive to the top two trims, enhances the SUV's appeal.
Engine (Power)
Two engine options power the Trailblazer. The base 1.2-liter engine produces 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine generates 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel-drive Trailblazers use either engine, which is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive trims come only with the optional engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The 2021 Trailblazer offers great fuel economy, with the base engine getting an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The larger engine gets slightly better numbers: 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV can tow a maximum of 1,000 pounds.
Interior
Unlike many other subcompact SUVs, the Trailblazer offers a roomy and plush interior for those traveling in either row. Taller travelers have plenty of space to stretch out in the front, while the rear seats fit three children or two adults comfortably. It's also easy to get in and out of the vehicle. Cloth upholstery comes standard, although synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats are available as well.
For technology, the base SUV comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen display featuring crisp graphics and quick response. This variant also includes two USB ports, Bluetooth, four speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other trims feature an 8-inch touch-screen display, HD and satellite radio, two more USB ports, wireless charging, and additional speakers.
The Trailblazer boasts a bigger cargo area compared to others in its class. It has 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 54.4 cubic feet once those seats are folded, giving you plenty of room to transport larger items.
Safety Features
Chevy has fitted the latest Trailblazer with numerous standard safety features to keep everyone protected. Some of these include pedestrian detection, a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, and forward-collision warning. The SUV also has the Teen Driver system, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors.
